“There are a lot of copycat offenders,” said Coral Springs Vice Mayor Vince Boccard.
Boccard is referring to those who are marking up city buildings and roadways with graffiti.
Boccard believes the city needs to strictly enforce graffiti ordinances.

“We need to put more teeth into the graffiti ordinances and go back and take time with addressing graffiti issues, code enforcement, and tools to prevent offenders from repeating the same crime over and over again,” Boccard told City Commissioners. “We also need to put the onus on the parents.”

Coral Springs Police Department Public Information Officer Joe McHugh said the graffiti problem is starting to lessen in the city. But he adds that tips are always needed.

“I think the graffiti problem is starting to [lessen] a little bit,” McHugh said.
He credits the decline to the department’s reward program, which gives monetary rewards up to $500 if the person is found, arrested and convicted of the crime. So far, the department has given two awards to tipsters totaling $500 each.

Boccard suggested having a future workshop on strengthening graffiti ordinances. The Commission agreed to meet at a later time.

Anyone who has tips on graffiti crimes should call 954-227-TIPS.
