City Police Department To Donate Older Tasers

The Coral Springs Police Department is out with the old and in with the new.
The department will donate its older model tasers and will continue to add new tasers to the force.
“It’s an ongoing process,” said Coral Springs Police Chief Duncan Foster referring to upgrading tasers.
Coral Springs City Commissioners recently approved the police department’s donation of M-26 tasers to the recruits of the Broward County Criminal Justice Institute for Basic Law Enforcement Academy training curriculum. With the purchase of the new X-26 tasers for Coral Springs police officers, the department no longer needs the older model M-26 tasers, reports state. Although, Chief Foster said the department does not have an exact number of tasers that will be donated.

“We are not sure of the final number. We are going through our inventory to see what works and what doesn’t,” he said.
The department decided to upgrade to new and smaller tasers for better results.
“The new tasers are smaller, and since officers have to carry more and more equipment, this is a benefit for us,” Foster said. “Also, the newer tasers have improved battery technology, which does not require us to re-charge them. This way we will be 100 percent confident that they are ready to go when our officers are on the streets.”
