Sarah Benckenstein was bummed when her last rock concert for charity was rained out- but she refused to give up.
The Coral Springs teen will soon host Rock for the Cure to raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The rock concert featuring 12 local bands and co-sponsored by The Paul Green School of Rock Music- Coral Springs and QuickTrackz Recording Studios will take place May 31 from noon to 9: 30 p.m. at the Sportsplex in Coral Springs. The Paul Green School of Rock Music will kick off the concert with Pink Floyd’s “The Wall”. Twelve local alternative and punk rock bands will rock out for a good cause. Those bands are: Backstage Riot!, Clicking Teeth, Slim2None, Take the Stage, Addiction of the Day, Forever the Martyr, My Complex Island, Oblivious Signal, They're Liars, Cambridge, Jacob’s Ladder, and Then There Was You.
“My sister has diabetes and has had the disease since she was 10. Now she is 32. I wanted to help my sister by donating to the charity as well as doing a community service project for the Silver Knight Scholarship,” said the 17-year-old student from Coral Springs High School. “And the bands are all doing this out of the kindness of their hearts.”
The event costs $10 at the door and a portion of all the proceeds will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
“There is still no cure for Juvenile Diabetes, and we need to find a cure,” she said.
