Presidential Hopeful Hillary Clinton: ‘Count Florida’s Votes’’

“Count our votes,” chanted hundreds of supporters mostly area senior citizens.

The chanters made their requests loud and clear: count the state primary votes and make Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton the Democratic presidential nominee. Clinton made a stop at Century Village in Boca Raton May 21 and then continued to sweep Broward County.

“In Florida, more than 1.7 million people cast their votes in the highest primary turnout in history and nearly 600,000 voters in Michigan did the same. There is not a day that goes by that people don’t stop me and say please make our votes count,” said Clinton, standing next to a group of local politicians and daughter Chelsea.

Clinton and other Presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain made visits to South Florida this past week hoping to gain supporters. On January 29, Clinton won the Florida primary vote although that vote did not count. The national party did not count Florida or Michigan’s delegates because the states held primaries too early. Democrats Clinton and Barack Obama did not campaign in Florida or Michigan.

However, the candidates are hoping that the national party will decide to count those Jan. 29 votes and give delegates to the Democratic Party.

“The fact is that people in Florida voted back in January and we should count those votes. The road to the White House runs right through Florida and Michigan. It’s time we bring a Democrat back to the White House,” said Clinton, who plans to introduce legislation called the Count Every Voter Act, which would ensure that every vote is counted and verified.

Mitzi Trachtman of Delray Beach believes Clinton should be the next President.
“I would like to see a woman get in. A woman would do a good job, and Hillary already has the experience and knowledge,” she said.

Barack Obama also made a stop at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise and Republican John McCain visited Miami.
