On January 6, Cameron Perez, 11, was rushed to the hospital when his parents heard him screaming in the middle of the night. His parents, Juan and Deidre, found him having seizures in his bedroom. His condition was later identified as Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM), an abnormal connection between veins and arteries in his brain, usually congenital.
Cameron has undergone five brain surgeries, suffered partial paralysis and speech difficulties. His parents were unable to work due to this tragedy and had no source of income during his nine-week stay in the hospital. Cameron has no health insurance and his family, two brothers, and friends are seeking support of the local community. Cameron's school, Coral Park Elementary in Coral Springs, organized a carnival to help raise money for the family. In addition, a video of the carnival was submitted to, The Give Happy Challenge. This is a contest sponsored by Howard Johnson's. The winner of the best video will be awarded $15,000 and a visit from the Harlem Globetrotters. If Cameron's video wins, half of the money will go to the Ronald McDonald House where the family lived for nine weeks, and the other half will go to the Perez family to help with Cameron's recovery. Voting is easy, and you can even vote once everyday. Visit http://www.thegivehappychallenge.com/default.aspx, and vote for the video showing the icon of the girl on a slide, it is entitled CPE Carnival Spreads Happiness.
